You don't need to know how to start violin. That's what this is for.
Violin Kickstart is a four-week live experience for adults who have wanted to learn violin—or pick it back up again after years away—but haven't known quite how to begin.
No musical background required. No need to read music. You don't even need an instrument for the first session.
You'll begin alongside other adults, with live instruction, individual support, a manageable approach to practice, and help figuring out everything from your first violin to what to do between lessons.
Cohorts are kept intentionally small.
I keep each Kickstart group small so I can give every participant individual attention, personalized feedback, and a genuinely high-quality first experience.

Four weeks from now, you won't know everything. But you'll know how to continue.
The goal isn't to turn you into an accomplished violinist in four weeks. It's to get you across the hardest part: the beginning.
By the end of Kickstart, you'll have begun developing:
- A comfortable relationship with your instrument
- The foundations of producing and shaping sound
- A realistic practice routine
- Experience learning actual music
- A clearer understanding of how you learn violin
- Confidence about what to work on next
And perhaps most importantly:
Violin will no longer be something you've always thought about learning. You'll have started.

Here's how we'll do it.
- Four live group sessions. We'll meet once a week for four weeks. You'll learn alongside other adults who are beginning or beginning again.
- One private 30-minute lesson. We'll work individually on your particular goals, questions, setup, and technique.
- Weekly personalized feedback. You'll have support figuring out what to practice next instead of being left alone between classes.
- Direct access to Rae. Questions are expected. You can reach out when something isn't making sense.
- A better way to practice between lessons. You'll also get early access to Practice Pals, a teacher-guided practice tool I'm developing to help students—new and returning—turn overwhelming practice sessions into short, manageable steps.
This is why the cohort stays small. Kickstart isn't designed to be a large webinar-style class. Keeping groups small is what makes individual attention, feedback, and the ability to respond to the actual people in the room possible.

The path
What your first month looks like
- Week 1 — Begin. Meet the instrument, learn the fundamentals, and get oriented without trying to absorb everything at once.
- Week 2 — Build. Begin turning unfamiliar movements into recognizable skills and establish a realistic way to practice.
- Week 3 — Make Music. Continue building technique while applying it to actual musical material.
- Week 4 — Continue. Put the pieces together and leave knowing what your next stage of learning can look like.
Four weeks isn't the end of learning violin. It's enough time to stop wondering what starting would be like.

I've spent more than twenty years teaching violin—to brand-new beginners and to adults picking it back up after years away.
One pattern I've seen repeatedly is that students don't usually struggle because they lack talent. They struggle because learning (or relearning) something this complex can feel overwhelming when you're trying to figure out too many things at once.
My teaching is Suzuki-informed, adaptive, and built around supportive rigor: serious learning without comparison culture or the expectation that everyone should progress identically.
You don't need to prove that you belong here. You need curiosity, some willingness to practice, and somewhere useful to begin.
